Dogs may be man's best friend, but some days will leave you frustrated and feeling like your dog is against you. You can do just a little training, and you will see that your dog will be a better dog in no time.
Your training sessions must be long enough for your dog to learn the desired behavior but no so long that he becomes bored. Start out with a small training session and up the time every day. Note how far into the training session your dog loses his attention span. That's the time to quit.
Use control to acknowledge positive behavior while training. When your dog obeys your command, try to keep them calm as you give them their reward. Although you may feel very pleased, control your response to avoid having your training situation become uncontrolled. Remain calm, expect the dog to be calm and provide appropriate rewards.
It is important to have a consistent training method when crate training young puppies. When your puppy gets out of its crate he will need to relieve himself. Doing so helps him learn when it is okay to go to the bathroom.
Be patient when teaching your dog, it will take some time. You might have to keep repeating something to a dog as much as fifty times for it to ‘click'. Try using the command more often and be very patient if you want your dog to learn.
Choose the right dog crate size if you wish to utilize the crate effectively to train him. Remember, puppies grow up. Choose a crate which will be suitable for the puppy when he matures into an adult. Your dog should have ample space to turn around inside the crate, as well as lay comfortably.
To have success in puppy training, you need to be able to control it with commands. Your dog will not respect or obey you, unless you let him know that you are the boss. When walking with your dog, always walk first, never let your dog lead, as this is the leadership position.
Have frequent or as necessary mini-training sessions to reinforce and keep the rules fresh in your dog's mind. Do not assume that your dog will remember his training all his life. Don't allow your dog to get out of the habit of good behavior. It's important to be consistent with the rules for your dog.
If your dog wants to jump you should squeeze their paws when they do so, they will know that they shouldn't do that. It is uncomfortable but a non-painful experience for the dog. After a while, they'll stop jumping due to this uncomfortable feeling.
Many dog owners are surprised to find that puppy training is a much easier and faster process than they had expected. So if the relationship with your dog is not as good as it should be, try a few of these suggestions.
